Day 8

The weather’s getting warmer these days… before today, it was really really cold; even within the dorm one has to put on jackets, and you’ll come out of the shower shivering. I heard that 2 days before we reached Dalian, there was even a heavy snow storm!... shucks.. missed it.. =(

Anyways, had lessons again today and we finally got to collect our library cards finally! It was really funny because we created a Chinese name for a friend of ours from her English/Indo name. It was really cool.. hahs.. we went exploring behind the library today and to our surprise! We found a really nice park which is just within the school compound itself. Gosh… I wonder how big the school is!

Day 9

Today, we had lessons as usual from 9-6pm for tutorial time and brainstormed for our project.

For lunch, we went to a nearby place outside of the school =D with our Lecturer Jonathan.. I must say.. the food in this particular “restaurant” tastes really good, despite only having 1 dish which I can eat (tomato with eggs). The food really has the taste of home… SIGH… how I miss Singapore food…

We had a nice walk to the restrauant and saw many pretty little yellow flowers along the way and also saw the local students playing basket ball; I believe they might be training for their annual sports meet where different schools would compete each other.

the weather's getting warmer!

Just like the Korean dramas, the school too has a broadcasting club and during lunch time every day, they would have dedications played out and also announcements.

BUT for today, they were broadcasting to the whole school about us! The Singaporean students, our speeches and openly welcoming us to the school!... oh my… It was rather touching and yet daunting at the same time…by the way, people in the school and in the stalls around the school labels us as “the ones from Singapore”. Whenever we buy food from the stalls, they would call us via that nickname… how embarrassing…

Day 10

As usual, we had lessons in the morning to kick start the day. We learnt a couple of neat tricks in 3Ds Max which we never knew. It was really cool… and we went by the school’s stadium during lunch time, we saw the locals preparing for their annual sports meet which is on tomorrow-30 April. They were shouting and stuff and we even saw some of the events- the shuttle run with three basket balls. It was really amusing and it made me think about the sports day I had in primary school and secondary school. The university culture here pretty different here I guess. Mostly likely due to the kind of upbringing (one child), with no siblings; and also the fact that most of them stay full time at the dorm and the simpler life of the people here.

ways to keep warm....

For dinner, we went exploring and tried the dishes at the dumpling store near the school compound, the dishes do taste quite good… =D..yum…

Another thing we found really interesting are the old school glass bottle soft drinks… It was really cool and we managed to create music with the bottles by blowing into the bottle. Different levels of water created a different note. We tried to do the tune for the Carlsberg advertisement. Did not manage to get it totally right, but we had fun… by far I have managed to collect the Pepsi and Seven up bottle… 2 more to go… =D

Btw, soft drinks here are all in Chinese names so we had to remember all of them… Pepsi is called 百世可乐 and sprite-雪碧 Miranda-美兰达 and 7 up- 七喜.. hahs.. interesting isn’t it?

cheers!

Day 11

Today was our first interim review… it was pretty daunting because we have yet to fully develop our scheme and it was the first time presenting to our new lecturer Jonathan Ho.
I guess it turned out not too bad as we managed to come up with a proper concept after the discussion

And today’s the sports meet of the school…It is so much more grand as compared to that of SP and the people here are more enthusiastic, even having cheerleading competitions…

After lunch, we had yet another excursion… this time to the Food Factory.
It was an hour’s ride from the hostel and I took several pictures of the sceneries of the along the way.

It was really quite interesting how different types of buildings and environments can exist side by side in such an outrageous manner. For instance, the landscape is varied in such an extensive manner which one can see slums right in front of beautiful condos. One moment you’ll see buildings of villages, another moment, you’ll see garbage dumps.

It’ll really quite a stark contrast. Personally I can‘t understand how the people here view this as such a norm.

The railway's pretty cool isn't it?

The food factory is basically a food processing plant, with even a branch in Singapore. The factory basically makes processed meat and vegetables for instant food. Before we could enter the space, we had to put on the disinfectant suits and even cover our hair and wear face masks. It was really funny and we took lots of photos and tired to mimic those scenes in ER or grey’s anatomy.
